Kinect is a truly creative breakthrough that replaces the conventional Xbox controls with your live hands, body and voice! Formerly Known as Project Natal, the Kinect non-controller was released on the eve of the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles (E3) with a dazzling Cirque du Soleil performance that exhibited the sense of new found freedom and unlimited connectivity in a 360 wireless world. As said poetically in the show about being controller-free : might the next object (in our evolutionary path) be the absence of an object?
The Kinect night-vision style sensor plugs into any Xbox 360, turning the Xbox experience into a kind of superhero Xman with X-ray vision. Kinect contains a camera, audio sensors, and infrared type motion-sensors that track 48 points of movement on the human body. Amazingly, it can recognize and remember face structures and voices. The little box can follow you around the area and tranlate your voice and motion commands into activities that range from live-action games to music, video, photos, chats and social interactive websites. As you interact and move around on the WWW, Kinect can follow you with full-motion tracking of the human body at 30 frames per second. It isnt affected by what a user is wearing or what type of furniture is around.
The Kinect presentation creates a sense of awe. One is struck with the idea that this is a turning point in the gaming industry, a milestone in entertainment history.
With Kinect, you are the controller…You simply step in front of the sensor and Kinect sees you move, hears your voice and recognizes your face said Mike Delman, corporate vice president of Global Marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business.
Hollywood stars, VIPs, and media from around the world gathered at LAs Galen Center to witness the unveiling. This 45-minute experience, which Cirque du Soleil spent five months developing and producing, was presented Sunday night, with an encore performance on Monday. Along with a 76-person cast of dancers, musicians, acrobats, and clowns, show goers were surrounded by an awesome setup featuring 25-foot-high projection screens totaling more than a football field in length, a gigantic 9-foot-tall elephant puppet housing projection screens and two artists, and a 40-foot-diameter steel structure that rotates on its axis. The experience is designed to generate a sense of connection and togetherness, interactive, imaginative and socially inclusive.
The event was re-broadcast on MTV on Tuesday at 3:30 pm ET, and on Nick at Nite, mtvU, MTV Hits, and Logo at 9 pm ET.
Kinect for Xbox 360, with roaring rapids, wild tigers, mountainous obstacle courses, and zooming racecars will be available November 4, 2010, in time for the holiday season.

Playboy Mansion Game (Xbox/Playstation, PC) at E3
Co-publishers Groove Games and ARUSH Entertainment now offer enhanced Expansion Pack updates for their video game titled Playboy: The Mansion, published under license from Playboy Enterprises. The Sims-like game is available from HIP Interactive on the Xbox360, PlayStation and PC video game systems. Ubisoft is offering a Playboy the Mansion - Gold Edition for pcs for about $74.
Originally developmed at Cyberlore Studios, Playboy: The Mansion is a unique gaming experience that seamlessly combines intriguing social interaction, party-throwing simulation and empire- building challenges.
The player steps into the virtual slippers of world-famous Playboy Founder Hugh Hefner. Gamers will live the lifestyle with stunning women and popular celebrities, and share the mystique of the Mansion by hosting extravagant, exciting parties. Crafty management of the Mansion’s social scene will be required to keep the business end of things thriving. Scoring hot celebrity interviews and arranging sexy photo shoots are just some of the tasks that players will encounter in growing the empire. The innovative Photo-shoot gameplay will allow the player to take control of the camera, shoot models for magazine covers and pick and choose the best overall theme for each issue in order to maintain the excellence that the buying public demands.
“We’re very excited to be working with Microsoft on Playboy: The MansionTM,” said Jon Walsh, president and CEO of Groove Games. “With its broad target audience of both novice and expert gamers, the Xbox is the perfect vehicle to bring the game to consumers. Xbox enthusiasts have a great time with this game.”
Rendered in a fully 3D environment with actual Playboy estate areas such as the Playboy Game House and the world-famous Playboy Grotto, the game portrays an accurate, virtually livable version of the actual Playboy Mansion. Gamers can create their own versions of the Mansion as they step into the role of the Playboy mogul, hosting lavish parties designed to be the envy of Hollywood. With Campaign and Empire modes, players can either follow an intriguing and involved storyline, or be set loose to explore and create on their own.
Playboy readers spent over $400 million on video games over the last year with more than 4 million readers owning a video game system. Playboy: The Mansion - Private Party Expansion Pack is the expansion pack to the simulation game Playboy: The Mansion. It adds extra features such as exciting parties like Midsummer Night’s Dream, world-famous celebrities and Playmates, new animations, enhanced character editing and party-themed music. The expansion adds many new features to the game. When characters engage in sexual activities, they now remove their underwear and their genitals are blurred, much like The Sims characters. Another feature is the ability to throw “theme parties”, which consist of Halloween, a Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hef’s Birthday, Tropical, Playmate of the Year and more.
This and many other games will be on display at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June 2010.

WEST COAST DEBUT OF AMERICA IAM: THE AFRICAN AMERICAN IMPRINT EXHIBITION at CALIFORNIA SCIENCE CENTER
by Rob Taylor
Los Angeles will be home to the west coast debut of America I AM: The African American Imprint, a touring exhibition presented by broadcaster Tavis Smiley that celebrates nearly 500 years of African American contributions to the U.S.
The showing at the California Science Center from October 30, 2009 to April 15, 2010, will be the third stop on the exhibition’s 10-city, four-year tour.
America I AM will be a nearly 13,000 square-foot presentation of pivotal moments in courage, conviction and creativity that celebrate the undeniable imprint of African Americans on our nation and around the world. The show encourages all people to connect in a meaningful way with the foundations of democracy, cultural diversity, exploration, and free enterprise, which began when the first Africans arrived in Jamestown,” said presenter Tavis Smiley. “By telling the stories of the events of the past, we can help the leaders of the future set the stage for active participation in the democratic process for years to come.”
Exhibition organizers worked with some of the most notable scholars in the field to develop America I AM, one of the broadest on this subject ever mounted. Among others, advisory panel members include Lawrence J. Pijeaux Jr., president and CEO of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and immediate past president of the Association of African American Museums; Cornel West, professor of religion and African American studies at Princeton University; and Henry Louis Gates Jr., the director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and American Research at Harvard University. John Fleming,
president of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, serves as executive producer.
